Giclée printing for your art and photos, from one proof to a full run

Upload a file of your painting, illustration or photograph, and our Phoenix lab will turn it into an archival giclée print on canvas that you'll be proud to hang or sell. Giclée printing suits anyone who wants an archival reproduction of their work, whether that's one proof to check the color or a full run for a show. You can preview your file without an account and sign in only when you check out.

What you get with giclée

A giclée is a high-resolution inkjet print made with archival pigment inks on archival canvas or paper, printed straight from your digital file. Because nothing has to be set up on a press, we can print a single copy as easily as many, and every print starts from the same master file you upload. If you'd like the background on the word and the process, here's what makes a print giclée.

At Prints by Brakebee, our canvas prints are made with archival pigment inks, so every one is an archival giclée print on canvas. When you pick canvas in the studio, that's what you're ordering. The result holds the fine detail and color of your original, which is why painters, illustrators and photographers choose giclée for reproductions of their work. Giclée printing for photographers works the same way, starting from your own image file.

One proof, a run, or print on demand

There are three ways to use our giclée printing service, and the same file works for all of them.

You can move the same file between a run and print on demand without uploading it again, so one master file serves both.

Getting your file ready

A strong giclée starts with a strong file. Our file-prep guide goes into detail, and these are the points that matter most:

  • Resolution: what counts is the pixel size of your file at the print size you want. Setting a higher DPI number in the file and enlarging it adds no detail, so if the file is small, choose a smaller print.
  • Color: work in sRGB unless you already run a calibrated wide-gamut workflow. Screens glow and prints reflect light, so a file can print a little darker than it looks on your laptop.
  • Crop: if your print will be framed, part of the image can sit under the frame or mat, so leave a quiet margin around faces, signatures and text.
  • Format: upload a clean, flattened TIFF or high-quality JPEG, and skip screenshots and files compressed for social media or email.

Signing, numbering and editions

A giclée can be signed, numbered and sold as a limited edition, which caps the number of prints at a figure you state up front, usually with each one signed in pencil and numbered by hand. An open edition has no fixed count and can keep printing for as long as it sells. Because each giclée prints from your file, you decide which way to go and how to keep track. Our guide to numbering an edition covers choosing an edition size, artist proofs and certificates.

Printed and checked by hand in Phoenix

Every giclée is printed in our Phoenix lab, the same shop that prints retail orders, marketplace sales and wholesale runs. The people on our floor print, hand-check and pack each piece, and a single proof gets the same check as a full run.

Questions

Is a giclée print worth it for selling my work?

Giclée suits originals with fine detail and rich color, because the print can carry that detail from your file. If you're not sure, order one proof and see how your work prints before you list it or order a run.

How do I help a canvas giclée last?

Hang it away from direct sun, which helps any print last, giclées on canvas included.

Can I order just one?

Yes, a canvas giclée can be printed one copy at a time, so a single proof is a normal order for us.

Where do I see my order?

Your orders live on your Brakebee account. Prints by Brakebee uses the same login as Brakebee.com, so My account takes you to brakebee.com, where you'll find your orders and your cart.
